Getting Started
Before You Begin
You will need:
- Your NFC-enabled Crafted Keepsakes product
- An NFC-compatible smartphone
- Internet access
Create a Shareable Link
Your NFC tag needs somewhere to send the person who taps it.
You may link to content such as a video, photo album, audio recording, memorial page, personal webpage, or other online content.
Test Your Link First
Before programming the NFC tag:
- Copy your link.
- Open a private or incognito browser window.
- Paste the link into the browser.
- Make sure the content opens without requiring your personal account login.
If you cannot open it without signing in, your recipient may not be able to open it either.
This test will prevent most problems.
Install NFC Tools
Install the NFC Tool App Appropriate For Your Phone
Program the NFC Tag
1. Open NFC Tools
Open the NFC Tool app on your smartphone.
2. Select Write
Choose the WRITE option.
3. Add a Record
Choose the option to add a URL or web link.
4. Paste Your Link
Paste the complete shareable link you tested earlier.
5. Choose Write
Tell the app you are ready to write the information to the NFC tag.
6. Hold Your Phone Near the NFC Area
Move the phone close to the NFC tag and hold it there until the app confirms that the tag has been successfully written.
IMPORTANT
Do not permanently lock the NFC tag if you want to be able to change the linked content later. .
Test Before You Gift
Test Your Keepsake
Close the NFC Tools app.
Hold your phone near the NFC area again.
When the notification appears, tap it.
Confirm that:
- The correct page opens
- the content plays or displays properly
- The viewer is not asked to sign into your personal account
- Photographs or videos display properly on a phone
Whenever possible, test the keepsake with a second smartphone as well.
How to Enjoy Your NFC Keepsake
- Wake the smartphone screen.
- Hold the phone near the NFC area of the keepsake.
- Move it slowly over the NFC area if necessary.
- When a notification appears, tap it.
- Enjoy the memory.
No programming is required by the recipient.
Troubleshooting
Nothing Happens When I Tap
Make sure the phone supports NFC and that NFC is enabled if the phone requires it.
Move the phone slowly around the NFC area. NFC antenna locations differ betwenn phones.
Try removing a thick phone case or metal accessory if the phone is having difficulty reading the tag.
The Wrong Page Opens
The tag may contain an older link.
Open NFC Tools and rewrite the tag using the correct link.
My Recipient Is Being Asked to Sign In
Your sharing permissions probably need to be changed.
Returnto the service where the content is hosted and make sure the recipient can view the content without signing into your personal account.
Then test the link in a private browser window.
I Want to Change My Video or Message
You can either update the content at the existing link or rewrite the NFC tag with a new link.
My Tag Will Not Rewrite
Make sure it has not previously been permanently locked.
